Movement and Music: Expressive Dance Series for Youth

TVCC Youth & siblings, 12 yrs+, of all abilities.

What to Expect

Welcome to an immersive and transformative series designed specifically for youth seeking to explore and enhance their creative expression, imagination, and mind-body connection.

This is a fun and engaging experience crafted to inspire exploration and awareness of the mind, body and spirit through guided movement and mindfulness practices.

Each week, we'll explore a different theme through individual, partner, and group practices through both guided and free movement. Guided dance movements will be incorporated, but no dance skills and steps will be learned. The focus of this experience is not on dance skill development or performance, but rather the personal creative process.

We’ll do this through some key practices:

  • Creative movement and dance
  • Mindfulness and embodiment
  • Visualizations, storytelling and imagination

Through this program, youth will have the opportunity to:

  • Meet and interact with other TVCC youth clients and siblings
  • Learn how to use creativity to process and express emotions, thoughts, and stories
  • Learn techniques that foster self-awareness, build resiliency, and help manage stress and anxiety
  • Learn how to connect with their physical selves, develop a deeper understanding of the mind-body connection, and cultivate a positive relationship with their bodies.

Participant Criteria:

  • TVCC clients and their siblings ages 12+
  • Interest and willingness to participate in dance and movement practices with their peers
  • Able to participate safely in group activities; participants are welcome to have a support person present to assist them
  • Able to independently follow along with a group with or without accommodations
  • This series is open to all abilities and adaptations will be offered for all

This series is led by a TVCC Recreation Therapist with training and experience in creative movement.

This program is part of the TVCC Wellness Project. The Wellness Project is a three-year program aimed at rebuilding and enhancing mental wellness for youth and their families. We understand that the past few years have brought unique challenges, and we want to help. We're running programs with a focus on connection, mindfulness, physical activity, and new skills.
