Going to the Dentist

Social Narrative for Children and Youth with Autism

It is time for a trip to the dentist. The dentist keeps my teeth clean and healthy.

When I get to the dentist's office, I might need to wait. I can play with toys, read a book, or play on the iPad. I wait in the waiting room until it is my turn.

When it is my turn, the dental hygienist will come and call my name.

I will go to the cleaning room and sit in the dentist chair.

The dentist will give me glasses to protect my eyes. I open my mouth wide so the dentist can look at my teeth.

The dentist might use something cool to open my mouth wider! This will make it easier to clean my teeth.

I can have someone hold my hand if I am scared.

The dentist might show me how to brush my teeth.

When I am done, I will be happy because my teeth feel clean!

I wait while we pay. Then we are done!

To keep my teeth clean until the next dentist visit, I get a new toothbrush to use at home!
