Classroom Model
One-to-one, individualized treatment is provided to children and youth in classroom settings with peers.
Set-Up
Instructor Therapists work 1:1 with participants within a classroom model where other children or youth are also receiving 1:1 intervention. Each child or youth will have an individualized Treatment Plan detailing their specific goals and targets. Participants in a classroom model present with minimal to no disruptive behaviours that include property destruction or physical/verbal behaviour that may interrupt another participant from engaging in their own treatment within the classroom setting.
When appropriate, small groups of children or youth may come together for joint activities and social skill building (e.g., snack times, circle activities, dyad or triad teaching, etc.).
The focus is to prepare each child or youth to actively engage in the Classroom Model demonstrating learning readiness for an educational setting.
Placement within a classroom setting is based on the child or youth's personal needs and treatment goals and is considered in relation to the skill set and goals of all participants in the setting. The clinical team will work with parents and caregivers to determine the best available setting for each child or youth.
Parent Engagement
Given the group nature of the classroom treatment model, families may observe treatment sessions where appropriate observation facilities are available. Parents and caregivers are strongly encouraged to participate in Foundational Family Services throughout their child or youth's interventions. A Family & Community Consultant will consult with parents and caregivers to work on the generalization and maintenance of learned skills to the home and community setting.
In some cases, families may participate in treatment sessions where the Instructor Therapist provides coaching to implement ABA strategies. Generalization and maintenance of skills across natural settings will be the primary focus.
