Quiet Swim (2-6 yrs)

TVCC clients, 2-6 yrs, along with a parent/caregiver.

What to Expect

This program is designed to provide a calm, low stimulation environment to allow children to become comfortable in the water with the support of a parent/caregiver. This program is unstructured and child led, and facilitated by a Recreation Therapist to support early transitions and comfort in the water.

Whether your child is new to swimming or simply seeking a quieter experience, Quiet Swim provides a supportive, enjoyable way to make water time more comfortable, and offers a chance to build water safety skills in a relaxing setting. Families will also have the opportunity to learn about different flotation devices, as well as next steps for TVCC or community based swimming programs.

This program would be a great fit for children who are interested in the water, but find the environment of a community pool overwhelming. This program has a focus on transitions and comfort in the water, not on learning to swim.

For this swim program, parents/caregivers MUST accompany their child in the water and pool deck and be within arms reach at all times, even if they are wearing a floatation device.

Parents/caregivers must be comfortable moving through chest-deep water (1.2m), understand how to be safe in the pool, and be able to respond to the needs of their swimmer. If this does not describe the parent/caregivers comfort in water, please contact tr [at] tvcc.on.ca (tr[at]tvcc[dot]on[dot]ca) for alternate pool programs.

If your child is under 2 or over 6 years old but you feel this program would be beneficial for them, please contact Olivia at olivia.langford [at] tvcc.on.ca (olivia[dot]langford[at]tvcc[dot]on[dot]ca).
