For TVCC clients with special needs, 2 - 5 yrs old, along with their parent/caregiver.
What to Expect
TVCC's Early Group Skills program is a parent and tot group for preschoolers with special needs to learn and practice the skills needed for group participation through the use of play and recreation based activities.
Each session will teach a new foundation skill that is important for group participation, building on the lessons learned in the previous week. Parents/caregivers will learn how to support their child's skill development and will be given time to practice skills with their child throughout each session.
This program is best suited for children who are new to participating in a group: children who have little or limited experience with daycare, playgroups, or group activities and are looking for a stepping stone into other group play opportunities at TVCC or in the community.
This is an active coaching group; parents/caregivers will be participating and supervising their own children.
This program will focus on the following goals:
- Entering into the group space with minimal support/prompts
- Practicing transitions between activities
- Responding to Stop and Go
- Exploring different play experiences (structured and unstructured), engaging in different styles of play (solo, parallel, collaborative, etc.)
- Interacting with peers in a group environment in a safe way for themselves and others
